My Concussion Story

Hello.  My name is Katie.  I am currently 28 years old.  In October 2016, I sustained a severe concussion when I fell backwards down a whole flight of stairs while holding an appliance.  My life changed in a matter of seconds.  I have since been diagnosed with Post Concussive Syndrome and have other issues with my neck and eyes related to the fall.

Before the concussion, I was working full time while also going to grad school full time.  I thrived under pressure and the busier I was, the better.  I had to take a leave from my job for the last 6 months as well as school.  (I was just recently cleared to return to both-but not full time).

The last 6 months have been filled with doctors appointments, lots of different types of treatments, therapies, emergency room visits, and sleep.  I have an amazing group of doctors and providers that consists of my PCP, OT, PT, SLP, Neuropsychologist, neurologist and ophthalmologist.

I am very fortunate that my injuries are not worse.  I truly believe that everything in life happens for a reason.  I created this blog to share some of my experiences over the last 6 months and future experie
nces.  If it can help at least just one person, then it will be worth it.
